All the gwailo food has been indulging so far, but something deep within our guts were crying out for something Asian. So it was time for some Dim Sum or as the Aussie calls it ‘Yum Chas‘. This used to be a regular weekend do for me when I was studying in Oz. I remember bringing my Aussie housemates down to Chinatown and telling them that the tiny morsels were actually called Dim Sums. I further shocked them by ordering a plate of Deep Fried Innards and Phoenix Claws just so I can see the horror on their faces. Evil lil monkey, I was. Those were the days aitelyu!
A good breakfast consisting of 10x Small Yum Cha + 2x Deluxe Yum Cha + 4x Super Deluxe Yum Cha and chinese tea at this popular joint set us back AUD83.60. That’s what the receipt says. A small fee for good HK Dim Sums. No?
SHARK FIN HOUSE (what a name, I’m surprised Green Peace has not protest against it)

Aussies are just blessed with good Asian food varieties especially Vietnamese. The keyword here being “good“. So jealous. Kinda makes me wonder why there isn’t a decent affordable Vietnamese food joint in KL that makes those lovely 8-hours phö stock served with proper rice noodles that’s not Kuay Teow. If I wanted Kuay Teow Soup I would have gone to a coffee shop, right? Sighs.
Anyway, one of my favourite eateries in the city has to be Mekong. A small fee of AUD8.00 (that’s cheap sh*t by this city’s standards) buys you a very tasty and pipping hot bowl of beef/chicken phö and all the condiments. Yes, that includes the ginormous Thai Basil Leaves that Ah Pa blogged about. A sign on the window says Bill Clinton ate 2 bowls of soup there, and photos on the walls suggests that Jackie Chan and heaps of other Asian celebrities have eaten there too.
Also, I love dipping the Spring Rolls (AUD4.80), Chargrilled Pork Paper Roll (AUD4.50) and Lemongrass Chargrilled Chicken Broken Rice (AUD8.50) in the bowl of fish sauce & vinegar concoction. Gosh, I’m making myself hungry writing about it!
