Thursday: Cruising The Coast

The Great Ocean Road (Route B100) is one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives. Unless you’ve been sleeping or puking throughout the winding road, anyone who has ever taken this gorgeous journey will surely agree that it is indeed…GREAT.

Here’s a little trivia, did you know that the Great Ocean Road was built by 3000 returned servicemen as a war memorial for fellow servicemen who had been killed in the First World War? Didn’t that just make the road trip even more stunning? And guess who decided to come out to play during our drive? The Sun! It was nice to have a glimpse of the Australia that I remember and loved – blue skies, rolling waves and the bright sun. Remind me to book for a summer trip instead the next time. I should pack some sunblock and do the Great Ocean Walk as well while I’m at it. I reckon everyone who’s not driven on this road should make it a point to do so and for everyone who’s been there, when are you planning your next trip?

Half-way to the world famous Twelve Apostles, we stopped by at the coastal town of Lorne for lunch. And going with Aussie coastal town meal time traditions , we chose to have some Fish & Chips. Our chosen store was packed with customers. To our surprised it was manned entirely by just one guy. He takes the orders, handles the cash registers, fries the chips, batter the fish, cook em and pack em up. And he was efficient too. I’m not even gonna draw any comparisons here. Respect I tell you!

McCutie made the only order of F&C amongst us. For AUD11.20, it came with two huge slices of Barramundi, a mountain of potato chips, lemon and tartare. For extra tomato sauce, you can add AUD2.50. Liz and I shared a Seafood Platter for 2 (AUD28.70) that consisted of Fish, Scallops, Prawns, Calamari Rings and even more fries. All of these are good, but be warned that you’ll probably be sweating and peeing oil after. We clearly stopped eating anything that was deep fried for the next few days. Lastly, Ivan who’s the smartest of our lot, ordered a Hamburger with everything in it (AUD14.90) instead. Didn’t get to try it, but I think it was good judging from his approving face.

    C&C: That's why you're shupagirl mah!

Thule: I think there's actually more than 12 in the first place. LOL. It's only a name. Apparently the formations used to have a less than desirable name of..Sow Piglet (thanks McC for the info) before the 1950s

LFB: Well guess that's better than being diabetic? ROFL

    LL: *smiles*

Joe: I'm surprised you didn't order that at Shang's Pub

Ah Pa: But it's the journey that matters! And in this case the destination was awesome too! And thanks for correcting my believes.

J2KFm: Aiyo, wrong blog lah. Mine's not as diabetic as some other people's *glares at Kenny Mah*
