I know I’ve been putting up one too many posts on my recent trip of late – I just felt like sharing. So, in a bid to show you readers that I’ve not lupa daratan (forgotten my roots), I’ll start the week with a post to proof that I’m still passionate about my home. But first, before I start writing about the event, allow me to say something about passion and arts.
Passion is love. Passion is dedication. Passion is the voice that has continuously charmed the hearts of millions. Passion is never asking for any recognition, merits, awards or approval. Passion is pushing boundaries and taking destiny by the horns. Passion is challenging industry standards, and against all odds, finding your own voice in a sea of clones. Passion is doing what you love for over a quarter of a century and still loving it. Passion is reinterpreting the same tunes, time and time again and having the will to move along with the times. Passion is beautiful, robust, aged, and smooth like a bottle of good wine. Passion is Malaysia’s Jazz Queen, Dato’ Sheila Majid.
Passion is the winemaker who has devoted his life to perfecting the art of bottling the best wines. His passion has let him to produce a legacy of reds with a beguiling mix of elegance, complexity, and intensity. Passion is being able to distinguished a BIN 222 from BIN 888. Passion is being able to pair a medley of wine to a tee. His passion is bold, charming, ever present, yet warm and humble – qualities he has as a person as well. His passionate career has been dotted by multiple prestigious awards that justifies his love. Passion is Chief Winemaker of the Wynham Estate, Mr. Nigel Dolan.
Passion is the chef who paints his food with perfection. Actually, passion is giving perfection to each and every one of his masterpieces. Passion is the chef who breathes life into each dish. Passion has no borders too. Perfectly marrying the art of French culinary style and the subtle taste of Japanese cuisine in one perfect harmony. Passion lies in the exquisitely prepared appetizer, Tranché of Hamachi with Avruga Caviar and Japanese Herb. It was perfection embodied on a plate, even though it was churned out in an assembly line. Passion is being able to perfectly take a sifu‘s legacy and putting your own mark on on traditions. Passion is the ability to make an excellent first impression and continue to mesmerise all the way to the desserts. Passion lies in the hands of the Executive Chef of Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar, Chef Daniel Cheong.
Passion also comes in the form of devotion.Passion is the beautiful Queen who shows up for dinner despite feeling under the weather. Being hopelessly devoted to food has always been her unspoken passion. Her devotion has led her to masquerade her sickness under the cover of a bright red cardigan and a sweet regal smile. However, eventually, her passion sparkles with the first sip of the George Wyndham Semillion Sauvignon Blanc. The crispy and fruity wine is as delightful as the first day of spring. She did not need her bright red facade afterall. And at that point, she is thankful that her passion drove her to the dinner as she sit and mingle amongst the aristocratic crowd. Passion is the ever lyrical and luscious Queen Lemongrass.
Passion, if not always, is also a sign of affection. The affection of each and every blogger that is seated together on the same table. The affection they have for one another is the key essence and final ingredient in making the evening an enjoyable event. For no man or woman can live unaffectionately on good food and good wine alone. Celebrate together we must. Celebrating this special communion together. And with a good glass of wine in our hands, we make a toast. Passion lies in every toast we make. Passion happens when our wineglasses clink together. Passion is in every laughter then after. A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to the WINEMAKERS DINNER hosted by the Wyndham Estate at Sage Restaurant & Bar, the Gardens Hotel. The invitation came courtesy of the lovely Marian Eu while I was, coincidentally, unwinding in one of the many magnificent wine regions in Western Australia.
