Life for Non-Beginners

Do not be afraid of turning thirty;
It doesn’t mean your life is gonna be shitty
It only means that you have grown
And making it on your own
Even though you’re older now, the devil’s still your cup of tea

Embrace your age with truth and grace,
And in due time you’ll find your place
With open eyes you will see
With maturity you’re truly free
The best is yet to come, and when it does you’ll embrace

Now I better stop with this lame limerick
Because I know it’s making you sick
My failed attempt’s not that hip
I rather be making a comic strip
It’s after all, artistically, the monkey’s finest trick

Thank God it’s Friday! Especially so for Life For Beginners who officially starts life today on the big 3-0 side of the fence. I’m not sure about he actually feels, but I’m guessing he’ll be putting up a very reflective birthday post as you’re reading this. His post would probably be about how much he has grown as an individual, or it could be an intricate piece of dedication worthy of an OSCAR®‘s winning speech smothered with puking sweet words, or it could just be about the fabulous pre-birthday party that he threw last weekend at Delicious@Dua Annexe and the wonderful friends he has invited. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be a beautiful piece with lots of pretty pictures.

My guess is that you’ll want to hurry over to Mr. Mah’s eagerly awaited birthday post, so I won’t burden you much longer and make this a short read. I’ve, after all, ran out of pages for this special issue of monkey comics. But, before I wish Kenny all the best on his journey towards menopause mid-life, I’d like to recount a few highlights of my own from his party.

Thanks to the party, I can now say that I’ve (FINALLY!) been introduced to Her Royal Highness, the Fabulously Famous Lyrical Lemongrass. Kenny did fulfill his promise (FINALLY!). It was surreal to be in her presence, let alone sitting right across the table from her. Needless to say, I did what any shy monkey would do – kept quiet and smiled a lot. Don’t let what I said scare you off, she’s actually very nice. So nice, that yours truly is her new BFF!

Along with her, I also met the rest of the floggers in the party, Fat Boy Bakes and KHKL, who together with LL formed the intimidating DSLR Mobs. My puny little point-and-shoot was no match for their mean gadgets. In the midst of snapping over 500++ pictures, LL suggested a brilliant idea to surprise the birthday boy. Well, he’ll have to figure out what it is. Won’t want to ruin it for Kenny and have him still rub it in my face a year later.

Also worth the mention are the Datin and the Diva. You both made the afternoon very entertaining and I reckon that making new friends should always be this easy. I can see why Kenny’s in love with you both. Oh yeah, last but not least, it was truly an honour to have tasted some of FBB’s legendary desserts. Heard so much about them, but now I can’t get over their awesomeness!

Anyway enough about me, it’s late and I’ll better let Kenny Mah take center stage now. After all, it is his day. Do check out what the uncle has to say.

Now, I’ll go enjoy the last of my twenty-something years before I join Kenny on his side of the fence next year. Perhaps, I should start planning my party now. Ideas, anyone?
