Hot Stuff: Brickfields Pisang Goreng

Brickfiels Pisang Goreng

“Sittin’ here, eatin’ my heart out waitin’
Waitin’ for some banana to cook
Wanna share my banana with a warm blooded lover
Wanna bring the kuih bakul back home

Lookin’ for some pisang goreng this evenin’
I need some pisang goreng tonight
I want some pisang goreng baby this evenin’
Gotta have some hot stuff
Gotta have some lovin’ tonight
I need Pisang
I want some Goreng
I need hot stuff

Hot, hot, hot, hot stuff
hot, hot, hot
hot, hot, hot, hot stuff
hot, hot, hot…”

Extracted and modified from Donna Summers “Hot Stuff from the album On the Radio.

As you sit there sipping on your glass of detox juice, think about how many crispy Pisang Goreng is sold at Mr. Chiam’s famous corner stall in Brickfields. Huge, fragrant, and burning hot Pisang Raja just flying off his pushcart like, well, Pisang Goreng. And then there’s the heavenly Kuih Bakul (nian gou) that’s sandwiched between slabs of yam and sweet potato. Its melting nian gou lava just bursting to be released with a single bite. Best thing is, the centre stays just as gooey even after two hours being away from the wok – puts any molten chocolate cake to shame (except for Ah Pa’s version of cos!). After all, it’s a healthy snack. There’s enough fruits and vegetable on this cart to make any vegan happy.

So yea, think about it. But don’t think too long though… cos (possibly) the best banana fritters in Klang Valley aren’t gonna wait.

Until I get to eat Nic's goreng pisang (no pun intended), this will also be the best goreng pisang I've ever tasted.
