Have Your Doughnut and Eat It Too!

Guess who (or what) showed up at the office today?

Krispy Kreme Malaysia

The first Krispy Kreme store in Malaysia has yet to open its doors, but we found a couple of these wonderful boxes magically lying around in the office. Like a kid on Christmas morning, we were gleefully smiling from ear-to-ear staring at them. Needless to say, when word got out and the manic monkeys at work came attacking!

So was it good as expected? Did it stay true to the original taste? Overrated? Well, I won’t comment about it just yet. It’s just too premature to judge. It would seem unfair as ours were probably left out a little too long in the cold, probably due to the delivery of these treats to several different spots in town. Will try it again when the store opens for some fresh ones off the oven.

The first store opens in Berjaya Times Square (why?) on 27 April 2009. Word has it that the first person to purchase a doughnut on the day will win a year’s supply of these sweet golden goodies (chi-sin!). But if you can wait, they’re also opening another outlet in Mid Valley in May.

a monkey that loves other foods including donuts.. except for bananas… hahaha!!! just kidding bro…
Anyway, I’m not a big fan of donuts anyway. Joined the craze once during Jco’s opening in Pavillion KL… but regretted after queueing for about an hour just to lay my hands on those sweet stuff…

C&C: Hmm I dunno where you got your's from. Mine's sweet, or so I've been told! ;)

LFB: Well better be safe than sorry. Comes from years and years of typing those darn fine prints on CD covers in the music business. Don't want Fox breathing down my neck over some doh-nuts!

TBTG: Yea, I'll wait for the Mid Valley one too.

LL: No lah, I'm just glad to be with special company. Like how you're my special BFF!

Nic: Tell me about it. Like movie premier liddat! Donut porn? Is that a new doughnut chain and serves their products with special sweet&sticky (or in c&c's case salty) kreme? Where to get? I wanna stand in line too.

Thule: Aiya, u got no sweet tooth ar? Well then perhaps this one won't be your cup of tea either. Maybe you can order the plain one with no glaze. It's fluffy :)

Funny story. We were in London. Went to Harrods which turned out to have a Krispy Kreme tucked in the back behind their famous (justifiably so) food hall. LFB, go there when you go!

Anyway, walk in and A and I were all excited. Our very first Krispy Kreme donut. We go up to the counter and we tell them we’re from Malaysia and being the “kampung” boys we were, we’d never tried a Krispy Kreme before. The supervisor says “hang on a moment.”

He waves to this guy who comes over. The manager says “these guys are from your home.” Turns out that Wan from Kelantan worked at Krispy Kreme and we got free donuts from him that day.

That was our first Krispy Kreme. And it was good. Better than any J Co or what have you in the market at present.

And cwazymonkey ahhhhh…soooo cute laaa you and blog! ;-)

WOW! What did I do to deserve the honour of having the crème de la crème of bakers sharing a wonderful story on my blog. I’m so not worthy. All hail the Masterbakers!!!

Hehe looks like we have something in common, our first Krispy Kreme doughnuts were complimentary! But it’s nice to know that the Malaysian spirit of sharing food never dies even when we’re miles away from home.

Happy Easter to the both of you!

J2K: Yea, they’ve been dropping em at selected offices around town plus they are also giving em out by the dozens on the streets. Heard there’s a truck that gives them out at several hot spots around lunch hour. Keep ya eyes wide open!

FBB: If it makes u feel less jakun, this was my first Krispy Kreme too. And if you happen to drop by the store to buy some, please remember me. You can boycott them after that, it’s ok. :)

We heard is was coming to Malaysia late last year, and we went hunting for it in The Pavilion. Too bad it only open its door now. May be it takes a few more months before we venture down to KL again.

Jason: You’re looking at the wrong place mate. Try the Mid Valley store when it opens next to Dunkin Donuts! LOL
