Mondays, the most dreaded day of the week. Nobody looks forward to it. If it wasn’t for it, our lovely weekends will never have to end. And like most of you, every Monday I’ll routinely walk into the office, switch on my PC, make a cuppa coffee and facebook while waiting for emails to load in the background. Don’t be shaking your heads and giving me the evil stares. I know you do it too!
However, I’ve got a confession. Last Monday, I just continued on sitting there in my cubicle procrastinating and wondering why MSN and blogs were not allowed on the company’s server. Imagine the hours I could waste on those in the name of “research”. I’ve not done any real work until way after lunch (shhh…don’t tell my boss). And by 3pm, I’ve had it with the day. I quickly planned my escape from the seriousness of the office and headed out to the mall under the pretence of checking on the new store in Mid Valley Megamall.
I soon finished doing my rounds at the mall and I remembered about a month back, Boolicious was talking about this new bakery opening and how she admires the young baker’s creations. Thank God for free wifi, I logged on and found out that the place has opened. Finally, I was bright eyed and bushy tail for the first time that Monday. Delectable by Su, here I come.
Tucked in a quaint corner of The Gardens mall, this small little white timber shop was quite a feast for the eyes and I’m serious about the eye candies. There were so many lovely designed cakes by Su Yin on display. Look left, “Oooh…“. Look right, “Ahhh…“. You could see that they had passion and dedication written all over them. And then, there was the friendly staff who gave me a tour of the shop and showed me all of Su Yin’s creations. Good time to visit during off peak hours.
Nestled between two towering wedding cakes were these gorgeous handcrafted cupcakes. They were really pretty. My eyes were fixated and my heart skipped a beat. I had to get some. A set of 3 cupcakes cost RM28 here. I picked up the Vanilla & Ginger, Mocha and Lemon & Vanilla (I think?). Actually those were the only 3 choices available, but the staff ensured me that these were her best sellers. I was sold. Somehow I was expecting the place to have a cafe so I could enjoy these cupcakes then and there, but it’s only in the pipeline – just not now. Sighs. So, she packed them in a pretty yellow striped box and handed it over to me.
Carrying the box out of the shop, I couldn’t wait until I’m home to try them out. So, I headed into the Food Garden one floor above, opened up the box, took in a last look at the cutesy designs and sank my teeth into them. Instantaneously, a rush of feel-good energy flowed through my veins and filled my dull Monday with butterflies and rainbows. By the time I ate the second one, I was already riding on cloud 9. And that my friends, is the power of a good cupcake. I decided to give the 3rd one to McCutie, who also had a shitty day.
From blog to shop, Su Yin has done good for herself. Got me thinking of pursuing my dreams one day too. Soon. Perhaps then I’ll be one of those crazy people on the other side of the fence who doesn’t suffer from Monday blues (can that be true?). Until then, I should start ordering her lovely treats for breakfast every Monday to come. I wouldn’t mind starting my week with her cute little lambs, teddies, penguins and bunnies creation.
Anyway, all the talk about Monday is depressing me already. I’m so glad it’s Friday already. Enjoy your weekend folks.
